Crosspost: 2nd Kyujanggak International Symposium on Korean Studies

THE Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies at Seoul National University is pleased to announce the second Kyujanggak International Symposium on Korean Studies, to be held August 27-28, 2009.

The conference theme is “Creating and Keeping Records in Korea;” Korea’s documentary heritage – from archives to pictorial records – is currently the subject of a long-term research project at Kyujanggak, and we would like to invite panel proposals that reflect on this theme in the broader context of East Asian or World History.

Panels should consist of four to five presenters, and panel organizers are responsible for bringing together paper proposals and applying. Panel proposals – including title and short abstracts of the panel and of individual papers, and short CVs of the organizer and panelists – should be sent to by January 31, 2009. Individual paper proposals will also be considered, especially if they are relevant to the conference theme. Panel organizers will be notified by March 15 whether their panel has been accepted; all presenters of selected panels will be reimbursed for their travel to Seoul and will receive free lodging and meals for the duration of the conference. Final papers should be sent in by June 30, 2009.
