The outspoken governor of Tokyo, Shintaro Ishihara, told reporters Monday that the disaster was "punishment from heaven" because Japanese have become greedy.
The reporter asks what he meant with those offensive words, and points out that it's extremely insensitive to the victims of the crisis. Governor responds to that saying "Didn't you hear what I said? I did put a 'This may be annoying to hear for the ears of the victims of the quake, but...' at the start of my sentence. You people need to report news more precisely". Then he goes on to rant about Japanese people asking for lower taxes is pure greed, and they should be punished, and the Tsunami came as a result of that greed, and reiterated that this is a punishment from heaven for the greedy Japanese.
